The purpose of the day is to honor these wonderful animals that work tirelessly to offer comfort, keep us secure, and save lives. These creatures put their lives in jeopardy every day. There are dogs who defend our safety and liberties by sniffing out narcotics and explosives, as well as those that rescue victims from wreckages and sad circumstances. We also offer dogs for the handicapped, the blind, and law enforcement.
